Punta Pequeña/San Juanico (Scorpion Bay)

CASALAVA  is located 26°N 112°W on the Pacific coast of the Baja California peninsula. Loreto International airport (LTO) is an easy 3-hour drive away with quick 1.5 hr flights from LAX, PHOENIX, and TIJUANA, or 2.5 hrs from Dallas. Los Cabos International Airport (6.5-hour drive) offers options for travel from worldwide locations.

Driving to San Juanico is about 600 miles from the Mexicali or Tijuana border via the "North Road," which passes through San Ignacio. The "South Road" is the second route option, and it adds a few hours and miles to the drive but is all on paved roads. Baja is always an adventure, however you travel! 

The activities and adventures here are endless. Spend the morning surfing the Points, and in the afternoon, head down to "Panga Beach" where the wind blows side-shore, and the sheltered water of the bay and the vast sandy beach are a haven for wind sports like Kiteboarding, Kite Foiling, and Wing Foiling. Or you can fill your days with kayaking, SUPing, fishing, or mountain biking...

There's always something new to explore: Drive south for 20 miles on the deserted beach passing giant sand dunes, to beautiful Punta San Gregorio; Or go North along the coast to the remote estuaries and spend the afternoon beach combing. Visit a rancho in the mountains, enjoy some fresh goat cheese and feel like you've returned to the time of the padres. Explore extinct volcanoes, hike up on lava mesas, bird-watch in La Purisima, and go whale watching during the season (December -April).

Off-roading is synonymous with Baja, and not much can top the excitement of the world-famous Baja 1000, which roars through town every other November. Bring your chairs and watch as racers navigate the exciting hairpin turns just outside the entrance to town, or visit one of the Racing Team's Pit Stops and watch their crew in action. For the ultimate experience, set up camp with friends and neighbors North of town to watch powerful Trophy Trucks roar out of the dark, get air on the whoop-de-dos, then disappear into the dark desert night. It'll register a "10" on anyone's thrill meter.

San Juanico enjoys a perfect climate with a mix of desert and tropical warmth tempered by the cooling influence of the Pacific. The Ocean temps range from the warmest months (August-October ) with an average of high 70's- low 80's. A unique feature of the region is that the water will often stay a pleasant 68-72° through February while other areas are into full suit, booty, and hood season! The coolest sea temps occur in March-May with the northwest Pacific spring winds.

The air temps usually follow the same pattern: August-September is the warmest, October through February/March is a lovely mix of warm days and cool, comfortable nights, April & May are the coolest, and June/July is usually somewhere between the extremes.
